Review of The Terminator (1984) by Renzo V — 27 Jan 2014
"OBJECTIVE: TERMINATE SARAH CONNOR".
- In my humble opinion this 1984 'The Terminator' is one of the best sci-fi action franchises. It was the launch of the successful career of director James Cameron (Aliens, Titanic), who also made the even better sequel 'Terminator 2: Judgment day'. This movie became an instant classic and has it all: suspense, car chases, shootings, romance and even a touch of gore, placed in a well build storyline. I really like to dark rawness and effects in this film. Starring Linda Hamilton (Dante's Peak), Michael Biehn (Aliens, The Abyss), Lance Hendrikson (Aliens) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Predator) in the most memorable role of his career (with only 18 lines to say). Watch this movie if to want to live!
2029. Humanity has nearly been extinguished by robots who took over the world. Only a small group of rebels lead by a man called John Connor dare to oppose these machines build by Skynet, a once artificial intelligence system developed for military purposes. When a Terminator cyborg (Schwarzenegger) is sent back to 1984 to assassinate 18 year old Sarah Connor (Hamilton) who will be Johns mother, the rebels decide to do the same and select resistance fighter Kyle Reese (Biehn) to protect her. Coming naked into Los Angeles, they both go and search clothes and weapons.
While the Terminator uses the phonebook to find and kill all Sarah Connors (apparently a common name in LA), the real Sarah is leading her boring life as a waitress. Tonight the young woman is going to a nightclub, so that her roommate has the apartment to herself and her boyfriend. When the Terminator shows up, he kills both of them, but realizes he has the wrong person when he hears his target on the answering machine. Arriving at the nightclub, the cyborg sees the real Sarah and opens fire. Will Kyle be able to save Sarah and humanity's future?
