Review of The Terminal (2004) by Sherryl J — 18 Aug 2014
Just watched this again recently and it struck me that this is actually an allegory. Viktor is the Christ like figure who is on a mission to complete his father's dream. Along the way, he is stranded in the wilderness, he is pursued by people who just want to get rid of him and he is tempted from his mission (in the form of Amelia - the Mary Magdolen figure).
He sacrifices his own goals for his new found friends and even performs a "miracle" when he intervenes to enable the man to bring in medicine for his dying father (the goat scence). In the end he transcends his pergatory and we discover that it was never his intention to stay.
He endured all of that just to fulfill his father's dream. His final words? "I'm going home" as he returns to the place from which he came. He has touched the lives of all of those he came into contact with.
It's a beautiful little story that just reminds us to stop and see the beauty around us.
