Review of The Teahouse of the August Moon (1957) by Scott S — 05 Nov 2011
The Teahouse of the August Moon (1956) -- [6.0] -- Glenn Ford is tasked with enforcing democracy on a small Okinawan village but slowly begins to embrace the villagers' hedonistic lifestyle in this off-kilter comedy costarring Eddie Albert and Henry Morgan.
It's a sweet and exuberant film, though Marlon Brando's performance as an Okinawan interpreter earns some notoriety. My favorite scene finds Ford being forcibly disrobed by a geisha girl (Machiko Kyo from "Rashomon") while on the phone with his superior officer.
