Review of The Tattooist (2007) by John W — 03 Jun 2012
A rather formulaic horror film, but the story setting gives it a great twist. American tattooist, Jake, is almost a charlatan espousing the 'power' of tattoos. A chance meeting and a cultural tattoo tool imbued with the spirit of it's unintentional victim make Jake the unwitting foil for the spirit.
It's the story (not functionally or culturally accurate, but still engaging) and locations that really make the movie. The characters aren't fleshed out enough for us to truly care about them, but the actors do a good job with what they have.
There are enough cool moments among the by the numbers scares to make it worth seeing. Would like to see more from this first time director!
