Review of The Talk of the Town (1942) by Hannah M — 19 Mar 2005
The Talk of the Town is an interesting mix of Cary Grant's two best genres, the comedy and the drama. (it is interesting to note that the best comedic actor of the last century was also an excellent villian, though studios rarely cast him as one).
At some points the movie finds it hard to combine the two, making you wonder weither you should laugh or...well, not cry...be dramatized. Mostly, however, the movie flows smoothly. Grant is not given as free a hand as he often is in movies, and his role could've been much larger, but the over all story is excellent and the movie is well worth watching.
