Review of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) by James K — 06 Mar 2009
CONSENSUS: Matt Damon has climbed the totem pole of Hollywood and has displayed himself as one of the top actors of his time. An early example is this unsettling tale of murder and obsession. His transformation from leech-like giddiness to cold, calculated lying can cause shivers down the spine.
Law is spot on as a carefree, arrogant playboy and Paltrow is convincing as both a love-struck girlfriend and terrified prey. An intriguing story to watch unfold that is full of suspense and heartbreak.
and one of the best films of 1999. MY GRADE: A-.
