Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by Tommi T — 03 Oct 2008
Caught this at Patton Oswalt's Film Festival at the New Beverly. Awesome. That's all I have to say...no I can say more. The script is so well written, no fat, just tight storytelling that hooks you from the opening scene.
Robert Shaw vs. Walter Matthau, it doesn't get much better then that. This film also beautifully exemplified starting as late as possible and ending as early as possible. It begins right when the heist starts and doesn't waste time with backstories or the why's.
I won't spoil the ending. Seriously, check this out. It looks like their remaking it too so see this one first in case that one sucks.
