Review of The Tailor of Panama (2001) by Eddie K — 06 May 2011
Interesting, intriguing movie. Plot build-up is good, with a great subtle humour. While it good as a common-or-garden spy thriller, it is even better as a parody of spy-thrillers, and a tongue-in-cheek look at international diplomacy, imperialism and espionage. Gets a bit too frenetic at the end, but that would be the only major negative.
Pierce Brosnan is superb as Andy Osnard, the MI6 agent. Having already played James Bond three times before this movie, he was a natural fit. He brings all the charm and confidence of James Bond to this role, and delivers an amazing performance.
Geoffrey Rush is as solid as ever as The Tailor. Decent performances from supportimg cast: Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine McCormack. Look out for an 11-year old Daniel Radcliffe as Geoffrey Rush's son.
Very enjoyable.
