Review of The Sword of Doom (1966) by Caleb L — 15 Jun 2007
Of all the samuri films I've come across, this is the best. A wonderful tribute to the ancient samuri art. I'm by no means an expert on that subject, but I do watch a lot of movies. The combination of Nakadai/Okamoto in this movie is hard to match. Even Kurosawa would have a hard time beating this.
Brilliant cinematography and beautiful scenery help pull this dark, twisted tale together. Toshiro Mifune's best go at acting yet. Which is saying a lot. I really liked this film a lot. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys early japanese film.
