Review of The Sword of Doom (1966) by Corey W — 31 Jul 2011
Tatsuya Nakadai is back-in one of his best roles ever. Although this film can be confusing at times to Western sensibilities, it draws you in and keeps you watching nonetheless, up to the bloody and incredible finally.
Much has been said about the ending, so I won't elaborate here. This is one of Nakadai's best roles. Right up there with Harakiri and my personal fav, Lord Hidetora in Ran. I prefer those films to this one, but that's not to take anything away from Okamoto's masterpiece.
Absolutely worth a peek.
