Review of The Sword in the Stone (1963) by Zack P — 24 Feb 2011
This movie was quite average for me. It has some decent musical sections, but none of them really compare well to today's standard in terms of musical ability or witty lyrics. The animation quality is quite poor due to its age, but besides being aged, it just seems like a generic medieval setting.
The ending was a great disappointment. There was no climax where he had to prove himself or anything, Aurthur, the main character, simply pulls the sword from the stone (which he had done already just about 3 minutes or so before this time) and the movie ends.
A final note is that Aurthur himself is presented as quite ignorant. He is supposed to have intelligence on his side, but Merlin has to spell everything out for him. The movie was probably great for its time, but the years have not been particularly kind to it.
