Review of The Sword in the Stone (1963) by Shane D — 22 Mar 2011
On a Sunday afternoon it only felt right to revisit some vintage Disney magic. Iâ(TM)d actually never seen Sword In The Stone, but remember reading the picture books for this film a lot when I was a kid.
After having sat through it, I guess the one thing I felt was that it actually was not as infectiously enjoyable as the other films that came before it, this is not necessarily saying anything new as its widely regarded to not be as strong, but I was surprised at how lack lustre it was.
There was little if any songs that were memorable or catchy, certainly none that stirred up any magical feelings. There were several nice moments between Wart and Merlin, but otherwise, its hard to pin point any moments that would sit proudly alongside the great scenes in Disneyâ(TM)s canon.
Then before you know it, its over with no real build up to the pulling of the sword from the stone. Still, it was nice to absorb a slice of Disneyana, even if it was a little sub-par.
