Review of The Swimmers (2022) by Bertobellamy — 01 Dec 2022

'The Swimmers' intention of making the life story of Yusra Mardini — a Syrian swimmer who saved several refugees from dying in the sea thanks to her skills and those of her sister — known is noble; however, the film's inspirational approach makes it all seem dull and predictable.

While the performances by the Issa sisters are decent, their characters feel bland and uninteresting. Also, various narrative and editing decisions leave much to be desired. As if that were not enough, the story extends much longer than necessary, not to mention that the ending is abrupt and not very exciting.
