Review of The Swimmer (1968) by Tim J — 28 Feb 2010
By today's standards, there are a lot of cliche montages, slo-mo romantic field runs, melodramatic speechifying, etc. But in context, this is an interesting and opinionated literary adaptation with a key performance by Lancaster.
Very good use of color, an excellent score, and some nice low angle and reverse shots as Burt's compulsive swim into his past falls apart.
