Review of The Swimmer (1968) by J K — 18 Dec 2009
One of the more perplexing and mind-blowing movies of the 1960s and one of Burt Lancaster's more controversial roles. The guy who goes from pool to pool on his way home but he has no home since he's ruined it with infidelity and alienating his loved ones.
There is no ending but it leaves the viewer to discern the ending on his/her own. People will either love it or hate it. I couldn't help but come away with a feeling of dread after watching this film.
I felt awful for Burt Lancaster's character. He appears truly lost. Some parts are over the top and odd, but it's still unsettling and powerful.
