Review of The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by Curtis P — 28 Apr 2008
A film of tremendous depth and grace, magnificent in every way and quite possibly the finest Canadian film ever made. Unlike almost any Egoyan film before or since, this does not suffer from a cool detachment, but rather it evokes, with extraordinary power, the depth of pain and division that grips people & community in the wake of unbearable tragedy.
Heart-breaking, devastating and yet redemptive, with a message that even in the face of despair we can, or some of us can, rise above.
Easily one of the finest films of the 90's.
