Review of The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by Darryl J — 25 Apr 2008
Tone, in general, and keeping that tone in a movie is an important part in making a movie like this. Atom Egoyan, with his wonderful static shots of a cold and lonely town, does this in spades. Everything from the voice-over,the town, it's people and his directing is key in making this film so great.
Ian Holm and Bruce Greenwood give really impressive performances. Sarah Polley was also terrific. In other hands, I don't think it would have been as good as it was but Egoyan makes it something that stays with you after you've finished watching.
