Review of The Suicide Squad (2021) by Tenacious_K — 07 Aug 2021
Gunn shows that in the right hands DC properties can thrive on screen, unfortunately these hands aren't there to stay. It was kinda funny to me that it took a director from Marvel to make the first great DC movie in over a decade, yet DC and its actors still attempt to talk **** on Marvel lol.
Though this was the best thing to come out of the "DCEU" so far it is not without its faults, most notably the humor falling flat in certain scenes, and while watching this I noticed that most of those scenes involved Quinn.
DC has been trying their asses off to make Quinn into a fan favorite, almost like a reverse Deadpool, and while they have gained some traction it felt like many of her scenes were added in post production due to their lack of relevance to the plot (I would theorize that if so it was at WB's behest).
But honestly though all the best scenes aside from watching almost all of the first team dying of the beach did not include her, which begs the question: was she part of the problem with the first suicide squad movie? Anyways Gunn has a gift for working with obscure comic book characters and it really shows here, it's just unfortunate that DC most likely won't learn from this and will likely just keep making the same mediocre to just bad movies.
