Review of The Sugarland Express (1974) by Ryan R — 14 Sep 2010
Spielberg directed this little film based on a true story just before his breakout Jaws. Watching, it was apparent that Spielberg had a great future ahead of him at this point. With not much in the way of story to work with; Spielberg uses his developing craft to make this movie watchable. The cinematic feel; as with most Spielberg movies, has a wondeful symmetry and flow. Goldie Hawn does a nice job portraying the more interesting half of the young married couple running rampant across Texas. It doesn't measure up to it's other couples fugitive drama competition (Bonnie & Clyde, Badlands) but I think it carves it's own niche just fine.
I rate this one 62/100.
