Despite a non materializing plot and a frustratingly disappointing ending, writer and director Bryan Bertino creates a masterclass in suspense and at times intense fear, even though The Strangers falls short of expectations.

The Strangers is literally the perfect name for the film due to the fact the three people in frightening white masks tormenting James Hoyt (Scott Speedman) and Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler) are in fact complete strangers. Throughout the movie James and Kristen are left battling for their lives when the strangers find a way onto their property (in the middle of no where) and make sure that they cannot escape their grasp before basically playing a deranged game of cat and mouse.

The Strangers has the ability to be one of the scariest movies in a long time but even though the suspense created is outstanding and the scares are quite frightening, the plot needs some working on in order to keep people's interests and possibly a twist or two could have been added. For just over the first half of the film, the Strangers is very creepy and when you think the climatic part will have you full of chills you are sadly mistaken. Valiant effort from all though.
