Review of The Strangers (1998) by Shayne J — 29 Oct 2012
As the movie has a very interesting and minimalist concept of a regular home invasion with the only intent to kill, it does not translate well to the screen as a film. The movie is ridiculously slow providing only 1 or 2 scares every 20 minutes.
You don't get any sort of feelings for the two main characters whatsoever, and could care less what happens to them in the end. Also, the strangers themselves are nowhere near as scary as advertised! When they take off their masks at the end, they just become regular people with knives in their hands that aren't menacing whatsoever.
As creepy and unique as the concept of the film is, it is a slow-moving slasher that doesn't provide as much as I hoped for.
