Review of The Strangers (1998) by Philip Z — 28 Sep 2013
It's one of those bland, uninspired flicks that you wander across late at night while channel surfing. You leave it on because you've got insomnia and need something to pass the time. About thirty minutes in, your eyes are starting to droop and you thank the B-movie gods that you found this thing.
It's the perfect cure for your sleepless nights. This also means that the movie is a complete failure. Another telling sign of a bad horror is when you start looking at the on-screen blood and terror and you are aware of it being fake.
It's not that the filmmakers don't try, it's just that nothing convinces you, nothing reels you into the world of the movie. You sit there and you watch without feeling, it's all so boring.
It's a curious flick, you can sense the director just around the corner yelling "Cut," when the scene ends, and you can even see the actors stretching after the take and venturing off to their trailers to wash the fake blood off their face.
This is not what I want when I go to a horror film.
