Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Elijah B — 08 Oct 2011
It's been said a hundred times, but it's true: paradoxically, David Lynch's most straightforward film is his most experimental one. It's also his most accessible and family friendly one, and at times comes terrifyingly close to melodrama.
However, it's still an emotional and engrossing story elevated by a great lead performance, and some fine supporting ones. The main theme is great. One of the weaker Lynch films as far as I'm concerned, but still highly above average.
I might have praised it higher if it was made by a different (less skilled) director.
