Review of The Straight Story (1999) by Hung-Ya L — 20 Sep 2013
This is the most beautiful film in terms of cinematography and sentiment. It's slow - as befitting the story of a man travelling 300 miles by lawnmower - but mesmerising and very rewarding. By the end, you feel like you have had a spiritual journey of your own.
Richard Farnsworth gives a wonderfully nuanced performance as Alvin Straight. And Angelo Badalamenti's music just tops it all off perfectly.
