This is a flawless film. David Lynch proves that he is a mighty force and able to craft all varieties of products.

Richard Farnsworth performance as Alvin Straight is one for the ages. Sissy Spacek also delivers an exceptional and emotional rendering of her character, Rose.

Some argue that this movie is slow and/or boring. I'd like to remind them that this is based on the true story of Alvin Straight who, while 73-years-old, drove a riding lawnmower across two states in order to visit his sickly brother. This movie is as fast as such a premise ought to be.

"The Straight Story" is remarkable by how it lives up to its name in so many ways. It is a linear narrative and the wild premise couldn't be more simple. Lynch actually shot this film in chronological order, something quite unheard of in these days.

This is a heart-warming picture that explores the triumph over life's trials. It will leave you reflecting your own life for places of improvement. That is one of the highest compliments I can bestow upon a film.

Richard Farnsworth couldn't have ended his career any better. Rest in peace.
