Review of The Story of Qiu Ju (1992) by Patrick F — 19 Nov 2008
A man gets kicked in the balls, and his wife goes through the legal system to get justice. I am not joking, that is the plot. Totally fucking rad, right? Right. The fact that this film, with a plot as absurd as that, actually has such a subtle and almost-serious tone to it makes it all the better. It is incredibly funny. The film can also be viewed as an investigation of the legal system in a reforming China, as well as the schism between rural and urban life in China.
