Review of The Stoning of Soraya M. (2009) by Glenn C — 26 Apr 2012
It has been a long time since a film has affected me as much as this one. My whole body is numb and I am full to the brim with all kinds of emotions. Anger, sadness, disgust, sickness and shame are all pooling up inside me right now.
The Stoning Of Soraya M is not an easy film to watch but I strongly recommend watching it. Its based on a best selling novel by a French-Iranian journalist who found himself stranded in a small Iranian town where he learned of the tragic stoning death of an innocent woman.
The film depicts the final 48 hours of Soraya's life and the plot to have her executed. If I wasn't already an atheist I would probably be questioning my own faith having seen this. As a man I am ashamed to be of the same gender as the men in this true story.
As a human being I am angered that such barbarity exists in this world. As a citizen of a democratic nation I am ever so thankful for the freedom that I take for granted. Wow, such a powerful film. I wont forget it and it's images will stick forever.
