Review of The Sting (1973) by Jamie L — 29 Mar 2009
Well worth a repeat viewing on my birthday, just to see how well the two of us have held up after 36 years. Still divine, still the grandpappy of great con movies and still one of the most remarkable ego-free ensemble casts ever assembled.
Quite why no-one adapted this for the stage and made it a staple of American rep theatre, I'll never know. Equal if not greater than Steinbeck, if for no other reason than it remembers to be human.
I'll swap 1000 hours of Keira Knightly in The Duchess for 5 sweet seconds of Eileen Brennan screen time any day.
