Review of The Stickup (2002) by David S — 14 Mar 2008
Wow! What a pleasant surprise this was! This is quite possibly the best "direct-to-video" (DTV) movie I have ever seen (okay, which doesn't say that much, but still...). The direction and performances are efficient but not great, but what 'IS' great is the plot which features multiple (yes, more than one) killer twists that I did not predict (which is a challenging thing to do, mind you, as I am accustomed to the genre's conventions).
This is the type of film to go in not knowing anything as there are several twists right off the bat. Don't go in expecting anything "amazing" or "revolutionary", this is simply a very solid, unpredictable thriller that certainly transcends its DTV pedigree.
