Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Jonathan T — 15 Jan 2010
Well-acted and brutally honest-- also pretty depressing. Jeff Daniels is superb in his archetypal role of the Smart Person Who Mistakes Himself to be Brilliant and Winds Up Bitter and Aimless. Good, better, best, bested.
.. I think Edward Albee coined that phrase. I could have empathized with him more had he not given his sons such rotten advice but then, he's no different than most parents who inadvertantly pass on their pathos to their children.
I recommend it-- but only if you're in the right mood.
