Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Bank K — 26 Jan 2011
A story about a divorce and the family it affects is not an easy sell, and as you might expect this is dark and troubled in places, but it can be quite touching and has moments that will make you laugh. Each of the family members is very well realised, with particularly good performances from Jeff Daniels and Jess Eisenberg, that make this feel believable.
I guess for me, coming from a family that is still together and not really knowing anything in the way of divorced families when I grew up it's hard to truly relate to this, but still it felt honest and appropriately raw. Well worth a watch I'd say.
