Review of The Squid and the Whale (2005) by Alice S — 30 Jan 2013
Calmly complex, inappropriately funny, delightfully pretentious, Jesse...ly Eisenberg...ian. This film captures small, disturbing moments with an objective lens, and the demons of each character allow me to accept without derision.
Jeff Daniels plays the worst kind of literati snob, and I especially enjoy the pairs of foils - how each son sides with one or the other parent, then they switch by the end.
