Review of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) by Genevieve R — 28 Apr 2013
Chalk full of laughs and very enjoyable. I prefer John O' Hurley as Neptune, but Jeffrey Tambor was well-cast as well; they even put Tambor's facial features onto his animated character.
The humour and characters of the show were mostly left intact, but some of the humour was a bit corny. I liked the pirates that came to see the Spongebob movie in theatres and the evil gift shop owner. One of my favourite aspects of the movie was the fact that they used David Hasselhoff's body as an enormous boat and the scene of the final showdown between Spongebob, Patrick and Dennis. I found it hilarious when they substituted ice cream for alcohol so that Spongebob could be a depressed, moping drunk for a few scenes. Plenty of exaggerated physical and surreal humour which is an essential part of the show. Overall, it was a great movie.
