Review of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) by Mike T — 26 May 2015
Hate to say it because I missed the point of this movie. It was good, in hindsight and absolutely great in hindsight for a huge fan of goofy movies and dumb surreal craziness like this one - it was psychedelic, surreal crazy dumb and smart and just cheeky and good all at the same time.
If you are 12 you will love this for it's maturity. If you are over 25 you will love this the same way as you will love a Mike Bay film - only it's better! If you are over 30 you will be confused by this but will love it in hindsight for the "click" that you get 2 months later for a bit of fluff and clicks for a week later, the movie all makes sense.
Now it's just a dream. A crazy dream with good acting, good mindnumbing action, and a silly and lazy but great ending with some hilariously edgy and naughty jokes - that was quite bizarre but what else do you expect in 2015? All movies are like this now.
Edgy, bizarre, quirky and scary! Some very intense scenes of mischief and some very spectacular Lego style drawing and references make for an astounding technical work of art that is pleasing to the eyes, ears and the old head of willpower.
I thought this was excellent but not perfect. It had a bit of cartoon fizzle near the end of the show that took away from a perfect 10/10 rating from this moviegoer. Otherwise it was pretty intense and spectacular and "surreal" albeit not quite what I expected and almost went completely over my brain dead head.
