Review of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) by Andrew B — 25 Jul 2014
It's been a long time since I watched this, but here's my review: I think this is an okay movie, some parts are pretty funny, and the scene of SpongeBob and Patrick drying out is rather emotional.
But they really did kind of throw the regular supporting characters (Sandy, Mrs. Puff, Mr. Krabs, though the latter being sidelined is part of the plot) to the sidelines while giving more screen time to characters we'll probably never see again (particularly King Neptune and Mindy, who are indeed drawn differently than the rest of the characters).
I think this was also a prototype of the future episodes of the TV series, with Spongebob's voice being whinier than before, but it's a little ways better than the following episodes. Overall, 3/5 stars.
