Review of The Spitfire Grill (1996) by Kelly C — 13 May 2011
Finally got to see this...It was high up there on my list since one of my only Flixster soul mates gave it 5 stars. The acting was pretty remarkable by all parties. Yes, it was a little cheesy, but I don't mind cheesy when the story has me enthralled and this one did - so many secrets and multiple plots woven together.
I really wish one of those plots was fleshed out a little more. Had it been, this would have been a solid five-star movie...but I think they let one major plot thread hang. Maybe I'll have to rewatch it to see if I missed something or if they just didn't give any explanation at all.
Very well worth watching. I wish they made more movies like this one about more realistic characters. Loved that the girl was from Ohio and had that accent because many people don't understand some of us from Ohio DO sound like that! Especially in southern Ohio where many of our parents and grandparents were raised in Kentucky! Great movie.
I'd love to watch it again, sometime, and see what I missed. Definitely one I wouldn't mind owning a copy of.
