Review of The Spirit (1987) by Chris B — 19 Jul 2010
Ok, So I have finally got around to watching this movie, Ever since the release of other films based on the Frank Miller's graphic novels such as Sin City(2005) and 300(2006) I had been looking forward to the latest 'comic effect movie'.
First and foremost I think this is a really good watch, as long as you don't mind movies that play with your head a little. Visually this movie is superb, but as you may already know it's shot in the same comic style as 'Sin City' so if you didn't like that, then don't bother watching this one.
What really stood out for me, was the performances from each and everyone on the cast list...The Octopus(Samuel L Jackson) plays his part really well,as he plays a sinister, psychotic villain in the search for immortality! But also Eva Mendes (Sand Saref) and Gabriel Macht (The Spirit) put in an excellent performance.
To sum up, this movie hasn't really got much on Sin City but if you are in to the comic style films that Frank Miller is famous for then you will in no doubt enjoy this film like I did. But as I said, If you didn't like the films such as Sin City or 300 then I wouldn't waste your time on this movie.
