Review of The Spectacular Now (2013) by Joshua M — 13 Feb 2014
A wonderfully nuanced half-coming of age/half-slice of life (since age is only questionably come to by our protagonist) that both embraces the tropes of those genres but still tries (and succeeds) at doing something new with them.
Much like last year's The Way Way Back, you're left bombarded with the uncertainties of your own life staring right back at you, but still also left with the heartwarming core nugget of "everything will be fine eventually.
" PS: Shailene Woodley's star deserves to rise even faster than Emma Stone, Zooey Deschanel and J-Law's did.
