Review of The Specialist (1994) by Andrew L — 14 Nov 2007
Guilty pleasure is right. For some unknown strange reason, I can watch this movie again and again. Agreed, it really isn't that good, but James Woods is an absolute hoot; Sharon Stone plays that fine line between glamour and trash she really does well (you've seen Casino, right?); Stallone is once again that strong silent type. And the action is pretty darned cool, a guy who takes care of business not with guns or martial arts, but with strategically placed controlled bombs. If you're looking for On the Waterfront or Gone with the Wine, this ain't it, but if you're looking for a fun time-waster, you can certainly do plenty worse.
Plot synopsis is: a woman seeking revenge for the professional hit on her parents finds a mercenary who just happens to have a past with the corrupt cop on the payroll of the gangster.
