Review of The Space Between Us (2017) by Dylan C — 04 Feb 2017
Just seen the The Space Between Us and Houston, this film has problems. It's a bummer being excited for a film and being so let down. I now understand why the film got pushed back for so long and finally dumped randomly in February.
Granted, I knew it was a teenage oriented love film but instead of delivering a good natured young adult romance, Peter Chelsomâ??s film comes off as a constant failed launch of missed opportunities.
This film jumped back and forth between corny, sappy and ridiculous. What should have been a unique opportunity to tell the cliche story of falling in love and finding a purpose to live, sprinkled with science and space, was squandered by a poorly written script, mediocre dialogue, disgraceful, just plain nonsensical science and a twist delivered as plan as an everyday "hello".
While itâ??s easy to see the potential of the story and what could have been with better direction, better writing, and better chemisty, The Space Between Us ends up being a massive disappointment on most every level.
There were things I liked, some dialogue was clever but overall, this film was as desolate as Mars. This film was one small step for schmaltzy cliches and one giant leap backwards for respectable cinema.
