Review of The Source (2011) by Bob L — 26 Jun 2012
Greek drama Lysistrata redone in modern Middle East. A North African village relies on it's women to fetch the all important water, while the men drink tea and quote the Quran all day. The 'love strike' the women impose brings on all sorts of issues related to honour and religion and this film juggles all the characters and layers of issues superbly.
This movie carries you through a wide range of humour, outrage, and sadness by engrossing you with the characters of the village. Indeed, the storytelling is done so well that within the first 10 minutes you are presented with, and get the drift of, most of the village, it's attitudes, and the main players in this hostile and alien landscape.
Can't recommend this enough.
