Review of The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) by Cody O — 20 Jul 2011
This is a movie that really just offers basic entertainment, and it really has to be your kind of movie if you are going to enjoy it. First off,the plot isnt really that deep,so dont expect much there,it really just acts as a pedestal for the action and special effects, both of which are pretty well handled.
You really have to like movies that involve magic to enjoy this film so if your like me you will like it,if not then you should look else where because this film pretty much revolves around magic. Another thing, you have to like Nicholas Cage.
I think that he is really good in this movie but if you are one of those people who absolutely hate him then dont bother with this movie.I would like to say that Alfred Molina is really good in this movie and a complete joy to watch every time he comes on screen, turning in a nice performance as the villain of the picture.
To be honest Jay Baruchel's charater is really bland and his romance isnt that interesting. This is a bad thing as it takes up way to much time in the film. The uninteresting main character really weakens any core this picture may have had but it makes up for it the best it can with the supporting performances by Cage and Molina and by providing enough action and humor to make the ride enjoyable.
Not a great picture but not a bad one. Decent family fun.
