Review of The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) by Bryanbezter — 04 May 2020

Great things about the movie:

1. Wonderful magical scenes.

2. The visual effects are excellent.

3. Great performances by Jay Baruchel as David "Dave" Stutler, Nicolas Cage as Balthazar Blake, Alfred Molina as Maxim Horvath, and Toby Kebbell as Drake Stone. Omar Benson Miller as Bennet Zurrow was hilarious.

4. The movie has fun moments and interesting battle scenes.

Weaknesses of the movie:

1. Dave as a great sorcerer is not really convincing.

2. The final battle is weak. Morgana and Horvath should have done more.

3. The scene where Balthazar was saved by Dave was weak.

Debatable holes:

1. How could Morgana be easily defeated?

2. Horvath could have defeated or even killed Balthazar and Dave in many occasions.

3. Horvath should have not killed Drake or Abigail.

4. How could there be only 4 souls in the Grimhold?

5. Horvath took a while to discover the past when Dave threw away the Grimhold, but later easily found the current location.

6. Dave could easily master sorcery.
