Review of The Sons of Katie Elder (1965) by Manny C — 15 Dec 2010
For a man who had just had a battle with cancer (though it would return) The Duke was in fine form in this film from director Henry Hathaway, which was a huge hit at the time. Four brothers are left reeling from their mother's death, especially when their land is usurped.
They must also struggle to honor their mother by actually making something of themselves. Believe me you could do far worse then The Sons of Katie Elder, and actually features some decent work from co-stars Dean Martin and a young Dennis Hopper.
