Review of The Soloist (2009) by Eric D — 23 Mar 2010
Something about the film just didn't gel for me. I like the cast (quite a bit, actually), and yet it just didn't seem to be able to be believable. Maybe because it felt like an indecisive film--is it a critique about society's dealings with the homeless? Mental illness? Lost ambition? It felt like it tried to tackle too many issues at once, never spending enough time on one (though the most attention seemed to be toward the homeless).
Still, it isn't by any means a failure. Perhaps simply overambitious.
