Review of The Soloist (2009) by Jaime C — 10 Sep 2010
Having read the book, I was very happy with the choice of actors for both characters. However, despite the massive amount of talent from the two main performers, the movie doesn't rise up from being just an ok movie with an interesting plot, when it should have been fantastic.
I know sometimes script writers have to add little tangents to a book to create more tension or make the story more interesting. Unfortunately, this book had plenty of tension and interest on its own right, and the additions did not bring any value to the film's storytelling. I was particularly disappointed by the relationship between Steve Lopez and his wife and kid, as well as the awkward character of the religious cello player/teacher.
