Review of The Soloist (2009) by James T — 15 Mar 2011
Downey Jr. and Foxx give outstanding performances in director Joe Wright's (Atonement) first American feature. It's a worthy story of friendship between a reporter and a homeless classical music prodigy.
Steering clear of head bashing sentiment or unsubtle messages this engaging film is lovingly shot, showing both the beauty and the darkness of L.A. Sure it could be argued the film doesn't really go anywhere, or that the supporting characters are a little arc light.
But the compassion and dedication to the source material more then makes up for it.
