Review of The Soloist (2009) by Dave M — 22 Feb 2012
Taken as more of a performance piece than a more traditional film, The Soloist excels. With a few notable exceptions, Foxx and Downey were both excellent. Heavy-handed and a bit enamoured with its own brevity and minimalism, and yes, slightly predictable.
It feels a bit more like a trespass on its deeper subject matter than a full-on exposition, but nonetheless gives a window to the mind of escapism, music, and poorly understood mental deficiency. Could have done more, but certainly did enough.
