Review of The Soloist (2009) by Johnny T — 20 Feb 2011
A glorious and heart-warming stand up and cheer classic. The Soloist has the required combination of honesty and emotional pull to potentially inspire audience members to do more for the homeless in their community. The film is imperfect, periodically if unsurprisingly sentimental, overly tidy and often very moving. Has moments of power and imagination, but the overworked style and heavy socially conscious bent exude an off-putting sense of self-importance, making for a picture that's more of a chore than a pleasure to sit through.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theater or buy an ex rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own...
