Review of The Soldier (1982) by Shawn W — 20 Feb 2012
After the grim violence of the Exterminator ,Director James Glickenhaus gets more money and more action in this rather good action B Movie.
Ken Wahl is the soldier of the title ,think of him as a Primark James Bond who is given the task of stopping Russian terrorists from detonating a plutonium bomb .
Glickenhaus fills the film full of action at the begining and end ,including a car jump over the Berlin wall and a ski chase .
Its the middle part of the film which is a bit saggy with too much exposistion and not enough action which could put fans of dumb action cinema off.
Also Wahl is very wooden and delivers his lines in such a way you wonder if he is taking the mickey .
That said we do get a nasty Klaus Kinski cameo and Wahls team of soldiers are pretty badass so their is just enough for action movie fans to enjoy.
